As many of you know, I suffer from seasonal (and sometimes situational) depression. I am happy to say I have been doing really well the last year and a half though! Every year I am so, SO glad when I see the signs of spring. I seek them out. In January, out of desperation, I look, search, hoping to see that first little fresh green sprout coming up out of the ground, or the bulbs starting to come up or the buds coming on the trees. I can always count on feeling better when spring comes. I like to feel the fresh air and the sun on my face. It energizes me!
This year inparticularly, as I have gone on my daily walks, I have felt an immeasurable amount of gratitude for the small things around me. Things I take for granted. I started making a mental list of all of the things I see, that make me happy. Some of my favorites:
- Bird nests. Amazing when you think of, or look at, all of the work it must take to make one. And just how do they know how and when to build one? I love to collect bird nests. I love that I can hear the birds singing or chirping again. What a wonderful sound they make.
- Spring flowers. Tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, lilacs....what beautiful colors to see and delight in! I seriously miss seeing color so when these babies come out I revel. Have you ever looked at what a vivid color of yellow daffodils are and how uniquely they are shaped. So cool!
- Beautiful sunrise. The other morning, it was bright orange. Wow, so glad I didn't miss that one! It was gorgeous.
- Ladybugs. Love 'em. They're supposed to bring good luck when they land on you?!
I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Reading through this list reminds me of the Primary song. Anyway, just wanted to share a few of my favorite things. I'm glad and oh so grateful that I live in this beautiful world, Heavenly Father created for me! He ROCKS!
